2013 Transition Academy:  College and Career Ready
and TCN Meeting

 Are you looking for some time to laugh, learn and relax while increasing your transition skills?  Join us for this year's Transition Academy!

The Academy will kick off with our Keynote, Judson Laipply, award-winning speaker and inspirational comedian. Judson promises to do two things: to make you laugh and make you think!

The keynote will be followed by several interactive sessions to stay on track with our State Superintendent Dr. Tony Evers  goal for education:  "Every Child a Graduate, College and Career Ready".  Session topics include: customized strategies of employment for students with significant disabilities, co-teaching and differentiation to build transition skills, using technology in transition, check and connect for dropout prevention, universal design for all, systems thinking, community conversations, DVR initiatives, mental health stratigies, employment opportunities, higher education opportunities and much more….     

 Also join us at the TCN Meeting - Wednesday Evening - 5:00-8:00 pm for dinner and to learn from Wisconsin Employers what skills are needed for student's to be successful in today's workforce!

There is no cost to attend the Transition Academy or Transition Coordinator Network Meeting,
however you must register - please register at www.witig.org 
This event is a great informational/networking opportunity for:  Transition Coordinators, Directors of Special Education, Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, School Counselors, School Psychologists, School Administrators, Agency Providers and Parents.

New DPI Discretionary Grant

The Transition Improvement Grant (TIG) is intended to provide effective, targeted, and low cost professional development to Wisconsin LEAs in the area of postsecondary transition. The TIG aims to combine the use of the PTP with improving post high outcomes for students with disabilities by combining the WITIG project and WPHSOS project. The grant will continue to focus on Indicator 13 Postsecondary Transition and Indicator 14 Post School Outcomes of students with disabilities.

DPI in collaboration with the CESA Statewide Network conducted interviews in May to fill the 7 new positions statewide. Mary Kampa will continue as the Post School Outcomes Coordinator at CESA 10. Michelle Uetz will be joining Mary at CESA 10 providing Post School Outcomes Outreach statewide. Pam Jenson will be the TIG Data/Grant Coordinator out of the CESA 2 office. The TIG Administrative Assistant will be Tamara Biddle out of the CESA 5 office. The WITIG project will have 4 new regional staff: Southern Region supporting CESAs 2, 3, 5: Brian Kenney out of the CESA 5 office; Western Region supporting CESAs 4, 10, 11: Brenda Swoboda out of the CESA 4 office; Eastern Region supporting CESAs 1, 6, 7: LaNae Jabas out of the CESA 1 office; Northern Region supporting CESAs 8, 9, 12: Kathy Tuttle out of the CESA 9 office.
